Glossary of Terms
Applicant: The person applying for an Emergency Financial Relief grant through E4E Relief.
Award / awarded: The formal term for the amount of money given to an applicant after their disaster or hardship grant application is approved.
Award amount: The dollar amount granted to an individual after they applied and been awarded a cash grant.
Client / clients: Every organization (Fund Sponsor) that has a Fund Agreement with E4E Relief.
Disaster relief: The broad industry term for aid to people who have been impacted by a disaster and can include a range of assistance including but not limited to financial relief.
Emergency Financial Relief: The charitable service E4E Relief provides to Fund Sponsors and their employees or other stakeholders.
Event: Describes the unexpected and overwhelming circumstances that can lead to an individual applying for an Emergency Financial Relief grant.
Fund: Refers to what an E4E Relief client creates after the Initial Contribution is seeded for an Emergency Financial Relief program.
Grant: A monetary award or financial assistance provided to individuals or organizations without the expectation of repayment, typically given to address specific needs, emergencies or qualifying circumstances.
Grantee/grant recipient: The term applying to the applicant after their grant application is approved and their relief grant has been awarded.
Hardship/hardships: Life events that are more personal in nature, creating unexpected financial strain and qualifying E4E Relief clients' employees to apply for an E4E Relief Emergency Financial Relief grant.
Hurricane Helene Community Fund (HHCF): Through direct charitable grants, the Fund which was established in September 2024 to support recovery efforts such as housing repairs, transportation, essential home contents and appliances and other needs, empowering individuals to rebuild their lives and contribute to their community’s recovery. Multiple contributing organizations provided funding for this community financial relief program.
ImpactStack®: E4E Relief's proprietary, multifaceted approach to measuring and reporting the social and business outcomes of Emergency Financial Relief programs.
Partner / partners: Organizations, companies or entities that may include employers, foundations, or other philanthropic organizations. An ecosystem of orgs or companies that deliver support to individuals in communities and may have a referral relationship with E4E Relief.
Program/program: The collection of the services, donation and application platform and Fund management provided to support all aspects of Emergency Financial Relief. Describes what E4E Relief offers as either disaster relief or hardship relief.
Qualifying event(s): The list of disasters and hardships for which E4E Relief awards Emergency Financial Relief grants.
Relief fund: A charitable fund established by a Fund Sponsor to provide Emergency Financial Relief to its employees and/or other stakeholders. The established construct housing a client's initial and ongoing contributions to their Emergency Financial Relief program.
Relief grant/relief grants/grant payment: The monetary award granted from a relief fund by E4E Relief to eligible applicants whose disaster or hardship grant application has been approved.
Repair and Recovery: Represents all E4E Relief Emergency Financial relief grants awarded to individuals who have needs that occurred as a result of unexpected disaster and disrupt previous level of quality of life. It includes repairs needed as a result of hurricanes, landslide, nuclear hazard/pollution, sinkhole, tornado, tropical storm, typhoon, volcanic eruption, wildfire and winter storm.
Seed: The monetary amount an E4E Relief client contributes which initiates funding for an Emergency Financial Relief program.
Social Impact: The positive changes in both the well-being of individuals, communities and society that result from E4E Relief's client support and clients' implementation of an Emergency Financial Relief program.
Trust-based philanthropy: A philanthropic approach that emphasizes transparency, mutual respect and streamlined processes, trusting recipients and partners to use resources effectively without excessive oversight. Grants directly to individuals is a form of trust-based philanthropy.
