Get the know your fund dashboard: Catastrophic Overview
This month on our tour of your relief program dashboard, we explore the “Catastrophic Overview” page. This page allows you to see the impact of named storms, including tropical storms, hurricanes, typhoons, cyclones and even winter storms.
As we approach what is typically the most active part of the Atlantic hurricane season, this page becomes particularly important, allowing you to track the impact of a particular event as it unfolds.
The “Catastrophic Overview” page allows you to see the impact of named storms. When Hurricane Ian hit last year or during Typhoon Doksuri earlier this summer, the Catastrophic Overview page became the go-to resource for organizations with employee populations that were impacted. This page becomes particularly important as we head into what is typically the most active part of the Atlantic hurricane season. In fact, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recently revised its forecast and is now predicting activity levels that are “above normal.” There are now 14 to 21 named storms expected over the course of the season, of which 6 to 11 could become hurricanes. So far, we have seen 13 named storms, including Hurricane Lee and Tropical Storm Margot, both of which are currently moving across the Atlantic.
As storms develop, if named, we will add the event’s name to the application so that, if an applicant applies for relief related to that storm, the information will be tracked through to the named event on this page. These events typically include typhoons, hurricanes, tropical storms and, more recently, winter storms. It is important to note that, while the Catastrophic Overview page provides an overview for natural disasters, it only allows you to track the relief requests around named storms. For example, since tornadoes do not have names, you would not be able to track the impact of specific tornadoes on this page.
The Catastrophic Overview page consists of several main sections. A few areas to note:
-
Header: As with other pages, this section allows you to filter and sort the information that appears on this page.
-
Left-hand menu: This shows aggregate data based on the filters you selected in the header.
-
Named storms: This section allows you to see application volume by each named storm.
-
Total application count by year, month and status: This allows you to track the ebb and flow of application volume. The impact of disasters can extend over the course of several weeks, or even months, as individuals return from evacuation, assess damages and begin the recovery process. This data can help you understand application patterns and prepare for future storms.
As with other pages of your relief program dashboard, the graphics on the Catastrophic Overview page are interactive, allowing you to click inside to adjust the information displayed.
We hope you find this information helpful as you navigate your fund dashboard. You can find information about the “Application Overview” page here and your “Fund Snapshot” here. We look forward to sharing additional information related to your dashboard over the next several months. Stay tuned!
